The Villa Capri Cruisers is a car club located in
Northeastern Pennsylvania, headquartered in Scranton. There are
currently 98 members, many of these members grew up in the 50’s
and 60’s. The type of autos owned by the club members range from
street rods, street machines, classics, antiques, trucks to race
cars. Many of our members are retired, which gives them a lot of
free time. This is one of the reasons we can get involved in
charitable and community projects. The members feel that they
got a lot of good things out of life and now it is time to give
back to help others less fortunate. We especially like to help
children. Our club motto is “Make a Child Smile”.
The community and charitable projects we are annually
involved with include:
1. A sponsor for the McDonald’s 5K race 2. As in the past years, we distribute stuffed animals
to patients in the CMC, Mercy, and Moses Taylor
Hospitals located in Scranton, for the Christmas
holidays.
3. Sponsor car shows/cruises at the Northeastern
Veterans Center in Scranton.
4. Sponsor bus trips to baseball games for members of
the Boys and Girls Club in Scranton.
5. Donate to the Deutch Institute, a research center
that deals with handicapped children. we also bring
many of the children to our annual Father’s Day Car
Show in June at Nay Aug Park in Scranton.
6. Donate annually to St. Joseph’s Center for severely
handicapped children.
7. Donated many appliances (i.e. refrigerators, TV's,
etc.) to the Ronald McDonald House in Scranton, to
make patients stay more comfortable and convenient.
8. Monthly car cruises with proceeds benefiting local
charities.
9. Car cruises at various local establishments with
proceeds benefiting local charities.
Our club has donated over $75,000 over the past six (6)
years. All of the members are very proud of this accomplishment.
These are some of the many activities that we were
involved with through the years. We have many local business
sponsors that make donations to help us make all of this
possible. With our sponsors help, we produce a calendar that
shows all of the local and many national auto events.
We also use the proceeds from our "Annual Father’s Day
Show" June of each year; "Hot Rods & Corvettes in the Park";
monthly cruises (May-Sept) and "Reunion of Old Friends" at Nay
Aug Park and raffle sales. All of the proceeds go to support
charities.
